DISTRICT 27-Al LIONS CHILDHOOD CANCER CHALLENGE

The Cause: Ewing Sarcoma, which is a type of childhood cancer, and is one of the Lion’s global focus areas. Ewing Sarcoma occurs in bones or in the soft tissue around the bones and is named after Dr. James Ewing, who first described the tumor in the 1920s. Although it’s rare, it is the second most common type of bone cancer affecting children which often occurs between the ages of 10 and 20 years old.

The Need: Funds for research to improve treatment and to find a cure. Research to treat or cure this type of cancer in children is not prioritized, simply because there are not enough funds. Patients often go through surgery to remove tumors, receive chemotherapy, radiation, and usually suffer amputations. Most of these treatments have not advanced in over 30 years due to lack of funding.

Who Needs Our Delp: The Little Warriors Foundation!! This Wisconsin-based nonprofit organization meets Lions Club International guidelines for childhood cancer donations. The Foundation was started in 2020 by the Spada family of Brookfield, WI. Their mission: To fund and find a lasting cure for cancer, with a specific focus on Ewing Sarcoma.
The Co-founder, Maggie Spada, a parent with a daughter, who is currently in remission after a grueling treatment regimen, reached out to the WI Lions for help and won us over!!

What We Can Do Now:
Commit today! Let’s make a difference in the lives of children affected by Ewing Sarcoma by donating today. Research is expensive, and we need your help.
